No Great Design Is Made Without Amazing Textiles
Welcome To Week 3!
Hey Everyone, it's Victoria with VLV Designs, and welcome to Week 3 of the19th season of the One Room Challenge! For those of you who are new to the One Room Challenge like myself, it is a bi-annual celebration of interior design, home decor and DIY bloggers hosted by Linda at Calling it Home, in partnership with Better Home and Gardens. Over the course of the next 8 weeks, a group of 200 guest and 20 featured bloggers will be taking on the challenge to transform one room, all while sharing their progress with all of you along the way!
If you are just joining us for the first time make sure you check out our previous posts from Week 1 & Week 2 where you will learn a little more about the Speakeasy portion of our design challenge that we have decided to take on for the One Room Challenge this season and learn a little more about VLV Designs, thanks for joining us on this awesome journey!
Style, Color & The Pursuit For The Perfect Fabric
Fabric Flipping & Sample Shopping
As we mentioned in Week 1 the inspiration for this bonus room is a Ralph Lauren inspired "Speakeasy"! One thing to know about us here at VLV Designs, is that we are obsessed with fabrics and textile and driven by our passion for patterns, textures and color! Selecting fabrics always sets the tone and inspiration for our concepts; and when it comes to shopping for fabrics there's no better place to start than the Kravet Showroom at High Point Market! Naturally we started with flipping through Ralph's collection as well as being drawn to anything that screamed Art Deco or Gatsby!
Bringing Out The Wild Side
After A Year Of Quarantining Our Client's Are Ready To Go Bold
One of the things we are loving most about this project is that it really allow us to get back to the classics from the furniture stylings to the patterns and the challenge of mixing bold patterns is one that we are more than ready to take on with confidence!
Yes, we always think of plaid when we think of Ralph but the King of American Fashion also tends to mix plaids and animal prints brilliantly as you can see in some of the inspiration shots we are using from his Fall/Winter 2012 Collection! Plaid and Prints are the epitome of classic fashion when it comes to patterns that are timeless and will never go out of style if done right!
But which plaid should we choose, this minor question to some is the major decision that will take the lead for the color direction for this at home pub!
Finding The Perfect Dress For The Windows
And How The Heck Are We Going To Hide The Exercise Equipment?!?!
Fabric shopping has many avenues here at VLV it could be for furniture, pillows, bedding, window treatments or for privacy design elements. This bonus room has one window at the end of the long space that currently has simple blinds that have never been opened, our plan is to make this a functional window that highlights the beautiful backyard view as well as brings in the drama by dressing it up with floor to ceiling draperies. Since this room is all about setting the stage for a Speakeasy vibe, building on layers, it would only make sense that we not only use velvet drapes but also a plaid roman shade!
As we had pointed out in Week 1 , one of the major challenges in this room is that the work out equipment will be staying in its current location and how can we disguise it as a treadmill has no place in a Speakeasy! That's why we we are so lucky to work with one of the best custom shops around to help us with the best solutions for hiding this gym! Check out our sketch for the plan to drape off the area with a velvet drape with a mesh top to allow air flow (cuz, oh ya, not only do we need to disguise the gym we also need to make sure that the A/C unit has proper air flow through the drapes).
